About the UNESCO

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations (UN). Its stated purpose is to contribute to peace and security by promoting international collaboration through education, science, and culture in order to further universal respect for justice, the rule of law, and human rights along with fundamental freedoms proclaimed in the UN Charter. It is the heir of the League of Nations' International Commission on Intellectual Cooperation.

About Us

On December 11th 1947, KOBE UNESCO Association was founded as the third-oldest private association of UNESCO in Japan. We promote activities through some projects mainly co-organized by Kobe municipality, Kobe board of education and Hyogo prefecture.

Our Activities

In 2012 projects such as "Construction of School", we planed and built up a school in Cambodia. Other projects such as "Gathering the Failed Postcards", we converted the postcards into scholarships for Asian children.
We also hold events in Kobe. For example the "Kobe Minato Matsuri Festival" or the "Heiwa-no-Kane wo Naraso"(the activity for remembering WW2).
Moreover, we participate in UNESCO’s “World Terakoya Movement” (the educational support for developing countries) and “World Heritage Preservation Movement”.
