On February 8, as a member of Women's Association of Care for Correction, I visited Tochigi Prison for Women where foreign prisoners are also imprisoned. Meguro UNESCO Association has been donated about 500 foreign books to the foreign convicts through Japan Publication Club as "Charity of Readings Activity."
The prison was kept clean and well-equipped to accept various people who speaks different languages. They told us that their library was also well furnished and be used well. It made me very happy when I found shelves, down the hallway, of the books Meguro UNESCO Association donated before.
When we started this activity, the number of foreigners in this prison were about 50, but there are 117 women imprisoned now. I strongly felt that we have to continue this action. (reported by Ms. Ashida)
