Introduction of Committee's Activities  -Part 2-

Training Program Committee
 
UNESCO's E=EDUCATION UNESCO is contributing to world peace through education. We know the importance of education. We also know that there are many people in the world who cannot receive aneducation. The Training Program Committee is meant for providing an opportunity for education or study not only to those people but also to UNESCO members. The word “training” can be defined as learning or cultivating and acquiring the skill of arts and crafts. The following are description of some of the activities.
(1)UNESCO International Cultural Exchange Lectures:An open-to-public lecture commissioned by theMeguro Board of Education. The following two lectures are held.
1.UNESCO Cultural Lecture: Held five times a year
Finished: a. 6/6 “Considerations on ‘Life and Death'; Prof. Masami Hirayama, Toyo-Eiwa Jyogakuin University, psychiatrist
Finished: b. 6/15 “Earth Environment and Society in the 21st Century”; Mr. Juichi Shibusawa, Managing      Director of Trees and Environment Network Association (NPO)
Finished: c. 10/5 “UNESCO Activities in Asia”; Mr. Noboru Noguchi, Director General of the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan, former Director of Secretariat of UNESCO Beijing, Prof.    Bunkyo Joshi University.
Finished: d. 12/ 1 “Think of Peace Now” Since September 11th the meaning of peace is being redefined.     There are unceasing conflicts at various locations in the world. Members of the Youth Activity Committee will also study this. Afghanistan is a crossroad of Western and Eastern civilizations. Advisors, Mr. Eiji Hattori and Mr. Shigeo Tajima's speeches are on the menu. Mr. Hattori inquired into the Silk Road during his service in UNESCO, Paris, and Mr. Tajima also has served in UNESCO.
Future programs: e. We are inviting lecturers and suggestions as to subjects, etc.
2. Language Classes: Three courses / 15 classes are held every year.

Open:  c. Korean Language Introductory Course; 10/19〜, Instructor, Kim Taehee, 45 students          enrolled.
(2) Language Classes for the Members
These are meant for “self-development of members” and “the promotion of UNESCO activities”. 154 members are now studying in the following 11 classes.
1. English Tue. Class A: Moriya Kyoiku Kaikan, Tue.10:00~, Instructor, M.A.Ogo, 11 students enrolled.
2. English Tue. Class B: Gohongi Juku Center, Tue.10:00~, Instructor, Yukino Hirayama, 9 students enrolled.
3. English Tue. Class C: Gohongi Juku Center, Tue.10:00~, Instructor, Masako Yumiba, 18 students enrolled.
4 Re-challenge English A: Moriya Kyoiku Kaikan, Wed. 10:00~, Instructor, Masako Yumiba, 22 students    enrolled.
5. Re-challenge English B: Moriya Kyoiku Kaikan, Wed. 18:30~, Instructor, Masako Yumiba, 13 students    enrolled.
6. EnglishFri. Class: Moriya Kyoiku Kaikan,Fri. 9:30,Instructor, M.A.Ogo, 15tudents enrolled.
7. FrenchBeginners' Class:Moriya Kyoiku    Kaikan,Wed. 10:30~,Instructor,Suzanne   Akieda, 12 students enrolled.
8. FrenchPre-intermediate Class:Moriya    Kyouiku Kaikan,Wed.18:30~, Instructor,   Andre-Dominick Deloge, 16 students    enrolled.
9. FrenchPre-intermediate Class:Moriya    Kyoiku Kaikan,Thu.18: 30~,Instructor,   Masatoshi Sagara, 12 students enrolled.
10. Italian Class:Midorigaoka Bunkakaikan,   Thu.18: 30~, Instructor, Marino Salvio,15students enrolled.

(3) Participation in Study and Training Sessions: Attend various study and training sessions (includingtheNational Convention, the Study Session in the Kanto District, the Study and Training Session for the Staff of Secretariats from All Japan UNESCO Associations, courses, and seniors)organized byrelated organizations including the National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan, the Tokyo Liaison Council of UNESCO Associations, the Meguro International Friendship Association.
We invite you to join UNESCO lectures and language classes that will provide substantial contents. 
You will be informed of lectures and classes as needed through the “Shortnews”. Please don't miss it!

Celebration・Letters of Thanks from the Minister of Justice・winning a Prize
Meguro UNESCO Association was given letters of thanks from the Minister of Justice at the 50th Anniversary Commemorative meeting for the “Megumi Movement of Reading” on November 19. For a long time, Meguro UNESCO Association has donated foreign language books through the Megumi Movement of Reading, to foreign inmates of Tochigi Prison and elsewhere. Friendship members have kindly made most of the contributions. We would like to continue to cooperate in this activity by sharing delight with everybody.
 
 
The 20th International Meguro UNESCO Bazaar・(a report)
 Thursday, Oct. 18th on the 2nd floor of St. Paul’s Church
 The customary UNESCO bazaar was a success and many people attended even though rain fell during the afternoon. Sales for the day were \259,340. There was also a small bazaar at the art exhibition (Nov. 21-25). Thank you for your continued cooperation. Many people kindly assisted at the bazaar and as usual, members brought many donations. Some people priced items, helped to move things around, arranged the venue, and participated in the sales activity. Others made fruits-cakes, cookies, and dried flower dolls in the days before the bazaar. And other people preparedlunches from early in the morning. Please join in with these activities and be sure to purchase something at the bazaar.

*The Gyanu sisters from Nepal made two kinds of Nepal curry. ( Lunch menu was chirashi sushi and curry.)
