Many people including non-members of the young and elderly attended UNESCO

planned and operated by Youth Activity Committee. It was a great opportunity
to learn how important we think of peace now. The following 3 pages are
the report.
The lecture that began at two o'clock had 4 sections; 1) drawing up a map
of the conflicting area,
2) a lecture of Mr. Eiji Hattori, 3) an announcement of three young people,
4) a lecture of Mr. Shigeo Tajima. It was a successful project.
First section: drawing up a map of conflicting areas in the world.
After Ms. Mieko Morita made participants draw spots to indicate conflicting
areas on a blank map, she put one on the top of the blank map. All
participants visually understood so many wars in the world.

The comment of Ms. Yukari Kamiya (a freshman at Tsudajuku
University)
"Think of Peace Now" has carried very important significance
and has been close to us after September 11th. Various people who are old
and young and men and women attended the event.
We first saw the map of conflicting areas and understood that innumerable
wars have been occurring in the world. From Mr. Hattori and Tajima's lectures,
we also learned something that we didn't know before. All participants
answered the questionnaires and wrote down about what peace is. We realized
various ideas from answering the questionnaires. Finally, we suggested
what we think about and can do. Through the event, we understood how important
we think about peace and problem in the world. We think that it is important
"to know". From now on, we would like to spend our time in studying
various things.

We went to Kawasaki elementary school and told about UNESCO to students
grades 6.
On December 19th, six young people, Mr. Hiroshi Toyama, Ms. Nozomi Imahata,
Ms. Mayumi Aoki, Ms. Asako Himeno, Ms. Tomoka Masawa, and Mr. Takayuki
Hashinaga, as Youth Activity explained about UNESCO as a part of “International
Understanding Lecture” to 58 students in grades 6 at Kami Maruko of Kawasaki
city elementary school. Before the events, young people have groped for
anything that they can do except for the retreat. They had an idea to “tell
children about UNESCO and think about peace”. When Ms. Takako Hashinaga,
an elementary school teacher, asked about the idea, the school was interested
in it. The schoolmaster and six-grade teacher requested a lecture to the
Meguro UNESCO.
On the day, they talked for 10 minutes per a person about “a conflict
of the world,” “differences between UNESCO and UNICEF,” “the world
heritage,” “Shikiji・the world terakoya movement,” ”a life style of
Cambodia,” “what can we do by a postcard?” It was the first time to
lecture on 58 elementary school students. Although we had a part of faltering
to lecture on, we enjoyed teaching by doing quiz and group works and using
a paper, wall map, and picture. After the lecture, we had a school lunch
and a good time with students. On the next day, we asked all students to
write anything about “Dear everybody of UNESCO Association.” Most of
their impressions were “differences between UNESCO and UNICEF,” “it
was surprising that some children were not able to go to the school,”
“miswritten postcards are turned to fund-raising.” We think it is fine
if some remains into their heart.
