Toward Opening a New Head Office

A new office, for which the Meguro UNESCO Association has been hoping for a long time, will soon be opened. A new school policy to open its doors to communities enables us to use one of the classrooms in Gohongi Elementary School, courtesy of Meguro-ku. We had an opportunity to check it out on March 14 when we were kindly guided by Mr. Ishiwata, Chief of the Social Education Division of the Board of Education and Mr. Mikami, Assistant Principal of the school.
We found the room, about 60u, quite normal with blackboards on the back and the front walls, and shelves for kids to hang their school bags; all of which reminded us our school days. We are delighted they have offered to donate tables, desks and steel shelves, no longer used at school. Because the room currently houses a library, it will be after the summer vacation before we can actually use it. We think this is a great step towards improving our bureau. We are very proud of it.
We need to continue discussing the best way to administer the bureau from every possible respect, so that we might have a quality start. We should use lessons learnt in preparations to make it as effective as possible. For this purpose, not only the Chairperson but also other members need to cooperate and think together.
We must remember our responsibilities when using the school building, a public property. It is hoped the place will also be useful for children to interact and study with each other, thereby utilising the room to benefit as many as
possible.
