International Exchange Committee
It is said that human beings discover themselves, and understand their
value and position through intercommunication with other people. While
it is important to know yourself, your home country, and its culture it
is 
great joy and fun to know about others, other countries, and their culture, and to recognize differences or to discover something in common. Exchange is, in other words, the intercourse of people of various lineages. It reminds me of what I learned with young people in Retreat; “Ecosystem is stronger where the number of species is larger. On the other hand, it is more fragile where there are fewer species as in the Antarctic region. This is the basic philosophy appearing at the beginning of the “UNESCO Universal Declaration on Cultural Diversity” as “UNESCO Philosophy of Education” This is the underlying principle of the activities of International Exchange Committee.
We co-host International Exchange Bazaar, Art Exhibition, International
Exchange Forum, etc. with other committees while we hold excursions, study
tours, etc. by ourselves as the occasion may demand. Some of them came
to take place on a regular basis. We will be glad if a new program can
be put into place pursuant to your request.

Thanks to the wonderful technology developed lately, many people travel
around the world without any restraint. We take this for granted and receive
the benefit. We often use and hear the word “encounter” without giving
much though to it. I think the word has a deeper meaning than initially
appears. The “encounter” can make you change yourselves and for the better.
We hope UNESCO activities can provide the opportunity for a genuine “encounter”
not just one with people or things that happen to be passing. Please join
in our programs. Your comments, impressions, and suggestions are welcome.

Training Program Committee
Education is one of the pillars of UNESCO activities along with Science and Culture. The philosophy is to pursue world peace by deepening mutual understanding. The behavioral objective of Training Program Committee of Meguro UNESCO Association is to provide an opportunity for members to learn and think extensively together with us. We do this because we believe that promoting better knowledge of many counties in the world and mutual understanding will contribute to peace. As the words of lifelong learning indicate, there are mountains of things to learn in the world. We hope many people will attend lectures organized by the committee.
The following are our annual programs;
(1) UNESCO International Cultural Exchange Lectures (public lecture)
① UNESCO cultural lecture (five times a year) (commissioned by Meguro Board of Education)
② Language courses (three courses per year/15 classes per course)(commissioned
by Meguro Board of Education)
(2) Language classes for the members held all year (objective = language acquisition by each member and the promotion of UNESCO activities).
(3) Attendance in training sessions (organized by National Federation of UNESCO Associations in Japan, Tokyo Liaison Council of UNESCO Associations, Meguro International Friendship Association, etc.)

Our achievement for the year 2002
(1) ① Cultural lecture:
“The Charms of Tanzania”, “Private UNESCO Movement｣, “Aspiration and Reality of Today’s Foreign Students”, and “Afghanistan Today”
② Language classes;
“Re-challenge French”, “English Conversation Course for Young People”, and “Training Course for Volunteer Japanese Language Teachers”
(2) Language classes for the members: 11 classes attended by about 160 people: English, French, Italian, Chinese, and the Korean language
