@On December 12, students who were usually separated into smaller classrooms
got together in one group. Students from A class, who had just started
learning Japanese, introduced themselves in newly learned Japanese. Then,
6 people from Thailand made a circle and sang and danced a song of their
mother country. A group of Koreans sang a Korean song named gAcaciah
with a sorrowful melody. Also, a song gMerry Christmash was sang led
by Julie from England. Then unique Christmas presents from Father Christmas
followed. Lastly, the Japanese instructors introduced Japanese songs gOshogatsu
(A New Year)h and gFurusato (My Home Country)h. So the 2002 morning
classes were concluded.
In 1985, UNESCO Japanese Language Classes were started with only a few
students. Today, about 120 to 130 students from more than 30 countries
study throughout the year. The basic idea of this language school is based
on the UNESCO Spirit that is ginternational understanding and cooperation
make peace possible.h This school is made up of the students trusting
in Meguro UNESCO Association and the staff (25 members) who offer their
knowledge and eagerness to respond the studentsf requests. Also, support from the Board of Education along with a law concerning
providing support to UNESCO activity make it@possible to continue the
activity.
Any members who are interested in this activity are always welcome. Please
get in contact with us. Especially, the secretariat volunteer who can help
as accountants, receptionists and general affairs are wanted.
