Mr.Katsuichi Yakushiji, who had been an advisor to our
association, passed away on March 7, 2004.We pray
his soul may rest in peace

What can we do to answer the purpose of the UNESCO spirit? Feb. 5: Prof. Hattori and Prof. Yamashita give us some precious advice on the activities of UNESCO (see pg 5). Mr. Nakano sends us a report on the 4th World Social Forum held in January (see pg 3).v March. Plum blossoms, hina dolls, budding plants in the garden… a heartwarming season for all. As I take a walk, an adorable baby catches my eyes. I find myself almost running into the lamppost, and I think, “War is not the answer!” v How can we explain to our children about UNESCO’s role and war? v The children may give us the hint. We are publishing a children’s poems collection in commemoration of the 50th anniversary of our association. v Feb. 21: A live performance by “Ensemble Mtskheta” of Georgia, an audience of 150. Ms Hamada’s information led to the quick arrangement of the event. Volunteers gather at 11 in the morning to set up the gymnasium ready for the performance… After the concert, the place instantly recovers its former state, thanks to everyone’s cooperation. A member stays behind and picks up what little trash left on the floor. So impressive, the way our members manage these events. v Feb. 28: Chigiri-e class by the International Exchange Committee and the PC class by the PR Committee fall on the same day. Sorry about the repeated breaks in power supply. But it’s good to know that all committee activities are taking their engines to full power! (S.K.)
