Cherry blossoms, in Tokyo, started flowering just in good time for school entrance ceremonies this year. At Gohongi Elementary School, the blossoms seen from the principal’s office were so beautiful, the school looked all the more appropriate for welcoming new pupils. It is always nice to see a mother and child in their bests walking hand in hand to attend the ceremony. v The office of Meguro UNESCO is right across the yard from the principal’s office. As soon as the new principal arrived at her post, she paid us a visit to our office. Later, when our chief staffs made a return call, the principal expressed her greatest expectations for UNESCO, which perhaps was something similar to her expectations for her first-year students. v The fresh, clean and open attitude of a first grader is exactly what we need, now as we work together to celebrate our 50th anniversary this year. v A rare poster was found. Its simple pictures and English captions give a good idea of how UNESCO was founded. It will give us a marvelous opportunity to look back at our starting point 50 years ago. v This poster has a picture of the atomic bomb dropped on Japan. Who made this poster, and when? We would like to know. v I wish the UNESCO movement would gain ground in various forms, for all people in all nations. (Y. Okusawa)
