Messages from Our Members .
ーFrom the reply postcards for the General Assemblyー .
Takayuki Hashinaga: Our second child, Yuta, was born on March 16. I’m now a proud father of two children.

Yumi Yoshida: I am busy caring for my nine-month-old child. I cannot participate in any of the Meguro UNESCO activities; but I enjoy reading Short News.

Ikuko Imamura: I’ve been working for the NPO, Peace Winds Japan, since last summer. It is my greatest pleasure to be able to make the most of my past experiences, and participate in international support activities.

Kiyoko Yokomizo: I have come to Chili on April 6 this year to work as a one-year senior volunteer for JICA. I now belong to the Department of Linguistics and Literature at the Universidad Austral de Chile in Valdivia, giving advice on Japanese language education.

Keiji & Etsuko Yamaguchi: Our eldest daughter, a senior at college, is now training at a kindergarten. Our son is a university sophomore, enjoying musical activities in a band. Yuko and Yoko, our younger daughters, are both six graders. The two of us are keeping ourselves busy with our jobs, housework, and studies.

Takeshi Hirabayashi: On April 1st this year I have become principal of Minato Ward Municipal Aoyama Junior High School.

Noritomo Suzuki: Hi, everybody! How are you doing? I enjoy working and painting. I hope you all enjoy your good health, your job, and your volunteer activities!!
.. Meguro UNESCO will move forward from its fifty-year tradition early this summer and take the first steps towards becoming an NPO. We will once again ask ourselves questions about the welfare of the people of the world. .. Many people traveled abroad during the Golden week. Many invaluable World Heritages are said to be in danger. In our vicinity, too, there are not a few natural environments, natural views, and cultures that should be preserved. .. Turning off Meguro Street into the side road at Tama-dai Meguro High School, we can see traces of Meguro Racetrack where the first Japan Derby took place in the spring of 1932. The track between the third turn and the final turn is now a road in the shape of an arc, and the following homestretch goes as far as Fudo Elementary School. .. This is the best season for bamboo shoots, which Meguro was once well-known for. In one woody park there is a clump of bamboos, now a rare sight, and dozens of bamboo shoots are growing. .. Place names with a long history have been chiseled with geographical features and memories of people. I hope names like Gakugei Daigaku Station and Toritsu Daigaku Station will remain unchanged. .. Some non-governmental UNESCO associations are trying to protect and hand down their tangible and intangible “local heritages”. .. I hope NGO activities that have been gaining ground in this country will develop smoothly. (H. Yoshizawa)
