Two big events await Meguro UNESCO this year: the celebra- tion of its 50th anniversary, and the foundation of the NPO. Looking ahead into the future, we realize that there are so many things that must be discussed in the PR committee. v Young American violinists were invited to perform in one of the 50th anniversary concerts. v The principal of T. Gakuin, a school in the neighboring town of Jiyugaoka, who happened to be a friend of one of the performer’s parents, expressed his deep respect for the young players’ incredibly great talents. v He says, “I feel parents should give the child many and various opportunities and help the child in discovering and developing his interest. Children are marvelously gifted, different and wonderful.” v The letter ‘E’ in UNESCO stands for ‘Education’, and Meguro UNESCO provides various programs for this purpose. The article about our cooperation with an elementary school for their “Period for Integrated Study” is one example, and of course, we have the “International Friendship Youth Retreat” coming soon. v I sincerely hope that this special year of our 50th anniversary will become a year of remarkable progress for all young people who are to lead the next generation.
