This summer, many parts of the country suffered much damage due to the heavy rains and typhoons that frequently hit Japan. Though we were better off in the Tokyo area, we still experienced a long record-breaking heat wave. In the meantime, the activities of Meguro UNESCO went on as usual. Members who kindly gave up their holidays got together for editorial meetings to discuss the g50th Anniversary Issueh and the gChildrenfs Poemsh. Then, afterthe long summer vacation, came the first editorial meeting. With little to talk about the Sept. issue, most of our time was devoted to the re-examination of our editorial policy. . The unattractive Short News” – the words mentioned earlier in a past meeting still weigh heavily on us editors’ minds. . How can we organize the large amount of information about our activities into such limited space? Fascinating readers is not so easy for an amateur-edited newsletter. We might be able to convey the UNESCO spirit, to give accurate reports on various activities, to provide new information, and to offer amembersf communication forum - as we have always done. Yet, some new possibilities have also been discussed. Now, we have a great deal of activity programs ahead of us in the autumn months. We need to keep our feet on the ground. (Y. Shimizu)
