Campaign for Miswritten Postcard Contributions

We are collecting unused postcards, miswritten or too old to use, in order to fund the Terakoya projects in India, Nepal, Cambodia, Afghanistan, and other countries. Our contributions will help offer ‘places of learning’ to children with no access to school or adults suffering from illiteracy.

The campaign will start on Jan. 20, running through Feb. 20, 2005. We’d like your kind cooperation.

On Oct. 23, Meguro UNESCO Association has put an end to its glorious history of 50 years as a voluntary organization, and gathered to celebrate its new start as the “Incorporated NPO Meguro UNESCO Association” (legally established on Oct. 1). v We had only celebrated our 50th anniversary earlier on Oct. 2, and next came this inaugural meeting. President Kato proclaimed a “new beginning”, which had great signi- ficance in the history of Meguro UNESCO. Now that we have incorporated our association, our next step is to become qualified as an authorized NPO, so that our private and corporate donors may be tax-exempted. Our activities in the next two years will serve as a test for our qualification. v In our future activities, we have the responsibility to bring all young energy and dynamism into play. v The society and many concerning agencies have backed us up in making our decision to incorporate the association, and so we must not let them down. v Our newsletter clearly shows the extensiveness and the vitality in our activities. With such young energy and dynamism, ‘the next 50 years’, as President Kato puts it, is full of promises. v As a specified non-profit organization, Meguro UNESCO Association is yet at dawn, but the outlook for the future is looking bright.                                                 (S. Kannari)
