2004年12月26日のスマトラ沖大地震のため、スリランカやインドなどインド洋沿岸諸国が津波におそわれました。国連が伝えた最新情報によりますと、このインド洋地震による津波での死者は15万人に達する可能性があるとされ、アナン事務総長は12月31日に「世界を挙げて今回災害に対応すべきだ」と強調しまし

た。食料については180万人分が緊急に必要とされています。スリランカでは「全国哀悼の日」の記念式典

を行いました。

　目黒ユネスコ協会としては、とくに永年に亘って支援を続けてきた「ヘーラット財団」からの「緊急に支援を・・」の要望に応えること にいたしました。

　新年の休暇が明けた5日「ヘーラット財団」に目黒ユ協の資金から15

万円を送金しました。

　皆様の募金は上記の口座へお願いします。一定額に達し次第、順次関係先の支援に充当致します。新年会《 1月22日（土） 12:30PM 聖パウロ教会2Fホール》でも受け付けます。宜しくご協力のほどお願い申し上げます。

Subject: Please help Tunami victims in Sri Lanka

　

　Dear Kato-san and member of Meguro UNESCO club,

　

I am sure Japanese media updates the current situation in Sri Lanka. The death toll is rising every minute. My immediate family members are safe, however we lost some close relatives, many friends and acquaints and thousands of fellow countrymen. Over one million people are displaced. We are also afraid that some scholarship students and their parents were among dead. There is no way that we can verify existence of our sakurlanka students in those affected areas.

Herath Foundation with another Sri Lankan organization managed to airlift one shipment of life-saving medicine from India on 12/28. The shipment is already distributed to Karapitiya hospital in Galle, one of the affected areas.　We are intending to do the same, at least twice a week until the acute phase is over.

Herath Foundation also started sending food and cloths and planning to rebuild houses in a selected village in Southern part of Sri Lanka. Please support our activities to help Tsunami victims in Sri Lanka.
