Mr. Adhikari returned to Nepal
--- After finishing the Doctor Course at the Shinshu University ---

Danda Pani Adhikari, a graduate student of the Shinshu University , joined
Meguro UNESCO's
Summer Retreat two times. His hometown is located one days walk from the
City of Gorka, west of Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. It is a small village
where only a small path leads. After graduating from a university in Nepal,
he came to Japan to join the Shinshu University , Graduate School of Science
and Technology, to study sedimentations. This year, he took a doctoral
degree and decided to return to Nepal. He is going to take a responsible
position in the education of Nepal with Mrs. Adhikari, a high school teacher.
On March 31, at the busiest moment before his departure, he willingly
spared time for us
At first, he commented on his worries about the unstable situation in
politics and the anti-governmental movement by the “Maoists” in Nepal.
He also talked about the importance of education for the future of Nepal,
and he felt responsible for the young people there as well as his own study.
He mentioned that two young Nepalese had already arrived in Japan to prepare
for entrance examinations of Japanese Universities. He asked us to support
them, too.
He joined the retreat two times with his wife, and the occasions brought
them very good chances to know the worldwide activities of Meguro UNESCO
and to make many friends from all over the world. In the recent meeting,
he was told that Mr. Hirata, the vice president of Meguro UNESCO, was located
in Kathmandu to work for the people there. He is eager to meet Mr. Hirata
as soon as possible.
Recently we often hear about the foreign students who would not go back
to their home country even after finishing their educations in Japan. Mr.
Adhikari talked about his thoughts for Nepal enthusiastically. Meguro UNESCO
has already decided to support two of the programs for promoting educations
in Nepal which are operated by the National Federation of UNESCO Associations
in Japan. Also, we wish to build a system to support the two Nepalese students
who would follow Mr. Adhikari.
