Wishing further development of the Meguro UNESCO Association

Katsuichi Yakushiji Mayor, Meguro City

Many heated games were seen at different places in Japan and Korea in the World Cup Soccer Tournament, a festival of soccer football games held once in four years, which lasted for one month attracting the world attention. There were no big problems of safety and security, which were worried before the games started. It was a wonderful event, which gave dreams and inspirations to so many people all over the world.
It is my sincere wish that those who gathered for the event developed friendship despite the differences of languages and cultures by the help of the ‘world’s common language’ of soccer games and that both international understanding and communication would be advanced eventually leading to the world eternal peace.
Also, I should make special mention of various volunteer activities, which were actively performed in the fields of cleaning, interpreting, coaching boy soccer teams and security.
These volunteer activities have something in common with the Meguro UNESCO Association, which is doing activities locally and internationally as an international volunteer organization based on the UNESCO spirits.
I would like to take this opportunity to restate my respect for your efforts in performing steadily such activities as arranging the classes for international understanding, charity concerts, youth retreat and collection of unused post cards. I should like to express my deep appreciation for your great contribution towards advancement of international understanding and communication of the citizens of the Meguro City.
Lastly, I would like to express my expectation that the Meguro UNESCO Association send out their messages not only locally but also internationally…from Meguro to the world. I wish good health and continued activities of President Kato and all other members of the Association..
