The 50th General Assembly of Meguro UNESCO
Re-election of committee members.

Preliminary recommendations for directors and committee members are invited.
The term of office for committee members and directors of Meguro UNESCO
Association is two years, and it is now time for re-election. During their
tenure, each committee member has contributed much to the activities of
our Association. We deeply appreciate their cooperation.
The new members will be re-elected at the General Assembly, and in preparations
for this re-election we have set up "The Recommendation Committee".In
February, the Board of Directors decided:
1. To set up "The Recommendation Committee".
2. The Recommendation Committee will accept candidates' applications.
3. The Recommendation Committee consists of the Chairperson of Activity (Executive)
Committee and three members of the Secretariat.
4. The Recommendation Committee will accept candidates to be the next directors
and committee members. Both recommendations and direct applications
will be accepted.
5. Please send applications in a sealed envelope addressed to “The Recommendation
Committee”.
6. Applications must be submitted as soon as possible.

The General Assembly of the National Federation of UNESCO Associations
in Japan will be held on May 23rd (Fri).
Ms. Reiko Kato, president of the Meguro UNESCO Association has made a statement
about this subject in the current issue of Meguro UNESCO SHORT NEWS. To
think about world peace, we appeal for participation in the meeting and
discussion with members of UNESCO from all over Japan.
This Convention is open to the public. Please participate if you can.
Applications must be submitted by April 11th (Fri).

UNESCO Symposium - "USA After 9.11 and World Crisis"

The Activities of the Youth Activity Committee are Flourishing!

1. UNESCO Youth Seminar 2002 in Osaka
The following four youths from Meguro UNESCO participated in the UNESCO
Youth Seminar 2002 in Osaka held at the Nagai Youth Hostel on March 21
- 23:- Takeshi Fujiwara (executive committee member of the Seminar), Genta
Atoji (chairperson of 2002 Retreat Executive Committee), Mieko Morita,
and Takeshi Kusuhara.
2. UNESCO World Terakoya Movement Youth Study Tour in Nepal
Two youths from Meguro UNESCO, Hiroshi Tohyama and Mieko Morita, are participating
in the study tour to Nepal to visit Terakoya and the World Heritage (March
25 - April 6). We wish them a safe trip back and for them to gain much
knowledge from the tour. We are hoping they will be able to meet Vice
President Hirata who is returning soon to Japan after a 2-year assignment.
3. UNESCO World Terakoya Movement Collegiate Study Tour in India
Nozomi Imahata participated in the Collegiate Study Tour to Gakak Taluk,
Belgaum District, Karnataka State, India (March 4 - 18) to visit Terakoya
and other areas of India. We look forward to hearing what she had learned
from the tour.
