"Road to the Future"

Collection of Childrenfs Poems as Memorial Publication of Meguro UNESCO
Association for its 50th Anniversary

Reiko Kato (President of Meguro UNESCO Association)

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Meguro UNESCO Association, we have decided to publish a collection of childrenfs poems under the title of gRoad to the Futureh.  We collect poems based on one of the following themes - "wishing for peace", "dream", "hope", and "love", composed by children of 6 to 15 years of age from all over the world. The collection will show minds, voices and letters of children from different countries.

The objects of the publication are listed below.

‘       Amid the chaotic world situation, we need to cultivate in childrenfs minds the importance of rising to the challenge to accomplish world peace, and the awareness that they themselves should be the challengers.

‘        Language is an integral part of a culture and people. It is hoped that many children, when they read the collection, will realize the co-existence of many different cultures in the world and feel the pleasure and awareness of supporting the one and only earth hand in hand. It is further hoped that many adults will be moved by the childrenfs words and given hope for the future.

‘       It is hoped that the torch of the UNESCO movement will be carried on vigorously hand after hand for the years to come

‘       The Meguro UNESCO Association has moved on one path for half a century. At its 50th anniversary, the Association will start on a new extended path for tomorrow. The collection will serve as the basis for the new path.

Towards another 50 years to come, we want to carry out sincerely what we can do and what we should do step by step. Among all, it is important to try constantly to influence the youth. Your voice is cordially invited at any time.
