Esashi Junior High School Students Visit Our Secretariat
On April 16, blessed with very fine weather, two boys and three girls of Esashi Junior High School visited our secretariat. Their research topic was‘Understanding why people devote so much of their life to do voluntary work'. They sent some questions to the secretariat in advance.

Question 1: What started you on UNESCO activities?
Question 2:What occasions give you satisfaction?
Question 3: What message can you give to junior high school students?

These questions elicited the following answers:

Answers to Question 1: ‘I got started on UNESCO activities when I took their language training and through it, I understood the point of UNESCO activities and sympathised with its philosophy.’ ‘I joined UNESCO activities because of my strong wish for world peace.’
Answers to Question 2: ‘I get satisfaction when I feel my life enlarged through the activities',‘When I achieve my aims with the co-operation of colleagues.’
Answers to Question 3: ‘My message is, to ensure everything you are involved in is worthy',‘Build up your competency to see things from various angles',‘Strive to understand other people's differences',‘Keep a thankful attitude',‘Failure is a stepping stone to success. Rise to the challenge!’

Later the secretariat got letters of thanks from the students. In the letters they mentioned that they had learned about ‘doing as much as possible in one's immediate environment as a vital step towards world peace', and ‘the importance of making the most of one's ability.’ There was also a comment: ‘We were impressed by the kindness and smiles of people we met at the secretariat.’ In the visitor's book we found: ‘We enjoyed tea and cookies a lot', a frank comment as they were probably hungry before lunchtime. We would like to continue to welcome student visits.
